If you're adding an index to a Word document, use the built-in indexing feature
to mark entries and insert an Index field; dot leaders are the default setting
for that (although you can choose other settings).

If you're manually building an index for something that isn't a Word document
(which I've done several times for page proofs of thousand-page books), modify
the style applied to the entries.

In the Modify Style dialog, click the Format button and choose Tabs. In the Tabs
dialog, enter a tab stop position equal to the distance from the left margin to
the right margin (generally 6"). Click the option for Right alignment and choose
the dot leader. Click the Set button (you MUST remember to do this, because just
clicking OK won't retain your entry) and then click OK in each dialog.

In each entry, type the name at the left, press the Tab key, and type the page
number.

1.Make sure the insertion point is in the paragraph in which you want the dot leaders.
2.Choose the Tabs option from the Format menu. You will see the Tabs dialog box. (To display the dialog box in Word 2010, start by displaying the Home tab of the ribbon. Click the small icon at the lower-right of the Paragraph group to display the Paragraph dialog box, then click Tabs.)
3Either select an existing tab stop location, or enter a tab stop measurement in the Tab Stop Position box.
4.Make sure the Alignment type is set as desired.
5.In the Leader area, click on the second option, which looks like a line of periods or dots.
6.Click on Set.
7.Click on OK. Answered Dec, 22 2010

right click the cell / Format Cell / Custom
in the box, enter *.
now whatever you type in the cell will show up with dots to the end of the
cell, regardless of cell width

good luck
